#  Moving Vehicle Policy  

 



#### **Purpose**

The purpose of this policy is to establish consistent requirements for temporary parking and placement of moving vehicles and storage equipment on Harvard University owned and operated parking facilities. This policy is intended to support moving activities while maintaining public safety, protecting University operations, and ensuring equitable access to limited parking resources. This policy applies to all individuals requesting temporary parking for moving vehicles on Harvard University owned and operated parking facilities, including students, faculty, staff, affiliates, contractors, vendors, and visitors.



 

##  Moving Vehicle Rules 

When space permits, Harvard residents may request short-term parking accommodations in proximity to their home location. These short-term parking accommodation requests must submitted at least five business days in advance and are subject to operational review. These accommodations allow moving vehicles to be parked on Harvard property while actively loading or unloading Temporary accommodations may include conditions such as designated parking locations, approved time windows, vehicle attendance requirements, or other operational restrictions. Approval is not guaranteed.

**Overnight parking of large moving vehicles is prohibited**. Smaller vehicles such as pickup trucks, cargo vans, and small box trucks up to ten feet can typically be parked overnight in standard campus parking locations. Moving vehicles may not:

- Block traffic lanes
- Obstruct accessible parking spaces or accessible routes
- Block fire lanes, emergency access, gates, sidewalks, loading docks, or building entrances
- Occupy parking spaces without authorization
- Create unsafe conditions

Transportation Services reserves the right to require a vehicle to relocate or vacate a location at any time if operational or emergency conditions require.

#### **Prohibited Items**

Portable storage containers (PODS) and trailers, whether attached or unattached to vehicles, are prohibited in Harvard parking facilities.

#### **Requests for Temporary Accommodations (vehicles over 10 feet)**

Requests for must be submitted at least five business days in advance to <parking@harvard.edu> and should include:

- Requestor name and contact information
- University affiliation
- Building or destination
- Requested date and time
- Vehicle type
- Vehicle dimensions
- Moving company, if applicable

Submission of a request does not guarantee approval.



 

#### **Enforcement**

Vehicles or equipment parked in violation of this policy may be denied access, cited, relocated, or towed at the owner's expense in accordance with University rules and applicable law.
